NAFF [chusma] is a multichannel rock project that mixes electroacoustic music, classical contemporary music and alternative/progressive rock music in an 8 channel concert format.
The music is presented through an octophonic system but it can go as high as fifteen channels (including vertical sound). It is an immersive experience where the musicians play in the middle of the system, along with the audience, with no particular front or back. The ideas of ‘dislocated sound’, ‘moving sound’ and the re-invention of multichannel surround sound for music are central to Naff (chusma)‘s proposal. There is also a ‘structured aggressiveness’ to the music, an emphasis on harmonic rhythms, poly-rhythms and surreal sound. The live show, however, is a listening-contemplative experience. Musicians can go inside or under a cube of translucent screens on which original images from Muv, Valaklava, Arevalo, Zopilote and Lengeling are projected.
Within a month of its debut at CutOut FEST, Querétaro, Mexico, Naff (chusma) was already classified as one of the best new bands of 2013 by Marvin Magazine.
